A unique feature of our service will be the opportunity for participants to receive training and personal development support as Volunteer Peer Mentors.


So what’s in it for me?

Accredited Training

Level 2 Award in
Peer Mentoring Skills

The Open Awards Level 2 Award in Peer Mentoring (RQF) qualification has been developed to provide learners with an understanding of the role of a peer mentor and the skills used in peer mentoring.

To achieve the award you will complete 60 learning hours including 6 days of classroom based learning, assignments and ‘shadow shifts’ accompanying our Advice and Guidance officers to appointments with clients. Credit Value of the Qualification: 6

Minimum Credits to be achieved at the level of the Qualification: 6

Mandatory Units: 2  (3 credits per unit)


Our training environment is relaxed and friendly. Our course is delivered by our qualified assessor, Leanne, who will support and enable you to gain your qualification. The main purpose of this qualification is to prepare you for a peer mentoring role. On completion of the training you will have gained an understanding of the role of peer mentor and also have developed the skills needed for the role.

 

With this qualification you can also progress to the next level of vocational learning, enabling you to combine a sector focus with your peer mentoring skills, particularly in areas such as Health and Social care or youth work. The next level of vocational learning includes:

  • Information, Advice and Guidance

  • Health and Social Care

  • Youth Work

You may also choose to progress onto an advanced Apprenticeship. You may explore progressing onto an apprenticeship in:

  • Youth Work

  • Health and Social Care

An apprenticeship is a practical programme designed to support progression into sustainable employment and includes:

  • Peer Mentor

  • Learning Mentor

  • Health Mentor

Due to the level of this qualification and the learning outcomes required, learners will be expected to complete some written work to a Level 2 standard. Your assessor should complete an assessment of your English language skills to ensure you are able to complete this requirement and put in place an action plan to support you were required or discuss reasonable adjustments.
